Remember those flashy science fiction movies where characters could breathe underwater thanks to some miraculous device? In a daring venture, an invention called ‘Triton Human Gills’ was heralded as a scuba diving revolution, promising users the mermaid-like ability to breathe underwater just by biting down on a mouthpiece. The invention uses artificial gills to extract oxygen from water and deliver it to the wearer. Unfortunately in reality, the contraption can’t deliver on its grand promise! Our bountiful lungs need far more oxygen than the device can provide, making Triton Human Gills a ‘sink or swim’ invention… which ultimately sunk!
